A big local presence, a big World Championship qualification, and a big win. This past weekend was a BIG one for the Quintana Roo family.
IRONMAN 70.3 Chattanooga
This weekend’s barnstorm of Quintana Roo success kicked off locally. Things were busy with IRONMAN 70.3 Chattanooga being hosted in our own backyard, and we made hay. Ahead of Sunday’s race, Quintana Roo invited the public to our house for factory tours, free eats, conversation with our pros, and good times. Age grouper triathletes got a true “behind the curtain” look at how our bikes come together with our factory tours, then got to rub elbows with and get autographs from several of our pros—Jenna Haufler, Miguel Mattox, Jamie Hayes and Robby Webster—at Friday’s Quintana Roo IRONMAN 70.3 Chattanooga Happy Hour. Good vibes, free street tacos, and tri bikes; everyone left stoked for Sunday’s race.
At the IRONMAN 70.3 Chattanooga expo, our team was busy looking after age groupers’ bikes before the race. Alas, the swim was cancelled (again), but we were excited to have Quintana Roo President Chris Pascarella hold the finisher’s tape for the race winners. Quintana Roo Pro Jess Smith scored a fantastic 2nd place finish, and Quintana Roo Factory Team athletes Robby Webster finished 20th and Jamie Hayes took 30th.
IRONMAN Lanzarote
Saturday on the Spanish island of Lanzarote, Norwegian pro Jon Breivold scored the third-fastest bike split on his V-PRi and finished fourth overall at IRONMAN Lanzarote. A solid result, but the kicker was that the result earned him a coveted starting spot for the men’s IRONMAN World Championships in Nice, France, this fall. A noted technical bike handler, Jon is champing at the bit for Nice.
The Championship in Samorin, Slovakia
The crown jewel in the weekend: a Quintana Roo win, at one of Europe’s centerpiece Challenge Family events, The Championship in Samorin, Slovakia. From our team, Jaime Navarro and Michael McNair were running our booth at the expo, with McNair, a pro mechanic, delivering our high-touch experience to Quintana Roo athletes with free pre-race bike service.
Victory came at the hands of Danish pro Kristian Høgenhaug, whose strong swim and absolutely dominant bike (with a 1:56 bike split, Høgenhaug was the only athlete to go under two hours for on a rainy, slick 90k bike course) created a buffer he extended on the run and into the finish. It was his first win of the season—and his first while riding the Quintana Roo V-PRi.
New European Quintana Roo ambassador triathlete Nathalie Houdek also debuted her V-PRi, taking a strong seventh in her age group at The Championship.
Global Success
France’s Arthur Horseau also took victory at Triathlon d’Argeles-sur-Mer, a small regional race in France, winning in the medium-distance event, which served as a test event as he prepares to line up at IRONMAN Austria in a few weeks and attempts to qualify for the IRONMAN World Championships in Nice.
Quintana Roo had a smattering of results across the globe; another IRONMAN Pro Series points race took place in France at IRONMAN 70.3 Aix-en-Provence, where Factory Team rider Tara Rooney finished 17th. And while he’s still assembling his new V-PRi, Fijian pro Benjamin Zorgnotti notched a 19th-place result at the IRONMAN 70.3 Aix-en-Provence Pro Series race, despite a crash on the bike that sent him over the guardrails. (At least we know his new QR is safe!)
Whew, that was a lot for one weekend. And summer’s not even here yet, meaning there will be more to come!
When customers purchase a V-PRi, they get the same ceramic bottom brackets and oversized pulley wheels as our pros. We explain why every triathlete who chooses a V-PRi automatically gets these upgrades from the factory.
We sat down with IRONMAN Pro Jenna Haufler to get her insights on how she and Miguel Mattox approach the Sherpa role as elite triathletes, and talk about the little things that supporters can do that make a big difference on race day.
Quintana Roo is proud to introduce the IRONMAN V-PRi, featuring a special IRONMAN paint scheme and athlete personalization on the top tube. This bike isn't just a trophy, it's the best tool for athletes to maximize their performance on raceday and achieve their IRONMAN dreams.
