MARTA SÁNCHEZ & GRACE THEK FINISH STRONG AT IRONMAN 70.3 OCEANSIDE

Marta Sánchez & Grace Thek Start Strong at IRONMAN 70.3 Oceanside

Well, it’s officially triathlon season!

Yes, the IRONMAN season officially kicked off in New Zealand, Geelong, and Dallas a few weeks ago. But when it comes to big fields, positive energy among athletes, and that “Opening Day” vibe, nothing beats IRONMAN 70.3 Oceanside. Warm Southern California weather, a massive expo, and a world-class sold-out field.

The Quintana Roo team was there in full force in the IRONMAN Village. Our team of pro mechanics took care of so many age groupers and pros that had trained all winter, getting their QR bikes dialed in and ready for action, riding past Marines, LCACs (hovercraft), and Osprey tilt-rotor helos at the Camp Pendleton Marine Corps Base in Oceanside. There was also HUGE interest in our new paint colors, which REALLY popped nicely under the SoCal sun this weekend!

Thek & Sánchez Qualify for 70.3 World Championships

Grace Thek IRONMAN Oceanside Grace Thek riding into 4th on her V-PRi, now available in an X-Small!

The course was as packed as an IRONMAN World Championship, and Quintana Roo was well represented with tons of age groupers, and no less than six pros toeing the start line: Americans Josh MondaJenna Haufler, and Miguel Mattox, Briton Matthew Collins, Aussie Grace Thek (one week removed from a runner-up finish at IRONMAN 70.3 Geelong in Australia), and Marta Sánchez of Spain were all ready to rock.

The guys had a rougher go (but showed promise) against a class field. The women’s race featured Marta Sánchez showcasing her new Studio NEXT V-PRi with a custom giraffe paint motif on the live online race coverage. Racing hard after a tough swim, Grace Thek moved forward on her V-PRi as well. Both would get off the bike and have fantastic runs, with Thek finishing just off the podium in fourth, and Sanchez in sixth. Both qualified for IRONMAN 70.3 World Championships in Nice, France, at the end of the year, and both will be racing at IRONMAN Texas in two weeks—a great bellwether ahead of that big race.

The Service Course's First Victory

Quintana Roo also had a top result on the short-course draft-legal racing circuit, this time coming from Isaac Lamprecht, a collegiate amateur with Wingate College in Wingate, N.C.

At the USA Triathlon Collegiate Club National Championships in Coastal Mississippi, Isaac beat all collegiate comers in the draft-legal sprint race (750-meter swim, 20k bike, 5k run) in 58 minutes, 1 second, becoming the collegiate sprint national champ!

He wasn’t done with the weekend. In finishing second at the Olympic-distance National Championships the next day, Isaac also helped his Wingate Bulldogs defend their collegiate national team title.

We are incredibly excited about the new paint colors and schemes being offered on Quintana Roo bikes for 2026. To celebrate (and show off a little), we gathered our pros in the SoCal desert town of Borrego Springs for a photoshoot after the race. One thing I'm proud of: we have no prima donnas. It was 95 degrees, and we had a 6 AM call time to start taking photos... and I got zero complaints from the athletes! I'm a huge fan of our pros and their unflappable work ethic.
