IRONMAN Boulder: Racing at Altitude

QR athlete Pedro Gomes, 2x IRONMAN Champion, shares his experience in preparing for IRONMAN Boulder.

Boulder, CO, is home to a lot of professional triathletes since it gathers the perfect conditions of a year-round training camp at altitude. However, I’ve always questioned how come Ironman Boulder was never a popular race. Not popular when compared to other full distance ones to a point where Ironman decided to discontinue the race for 2020.

Ironman Boulder was my second full of the year and one I’m proud to have finished in 8th place among a short but stellar field of professionals fighting for the $40,000 prize money. Due to the specificity of the race, I decided to do a small video with a little insight about my preparation for a race at altitude and how did I do it without leaving sea level.
