On October 12th, Greg Schaefer toed the line and raced at the IRONMAN World Championship in Kona, Hawaii. He had a great race on his new Quintana Roo PRsix. We just had to reach out and see what his thoughts were on his race day!
Tell us about your Kona experience. What was your favorite part?
My favorite part of the race was getting the opportunity to race alongside my coach Tim Gerry from QT2 Systems. Tim selflessly gave up his race to enjoy the moment with me. Being able to execute the plan QT2 laid out for me to finish strong and achieve my PR was amazing.
What was your least favorite part?
My least favorite part was getting a drafting penalty at mile 90 of the bike that cost me a 10:59 finish time. I lost focus hydrating up a hill, but the official made the right call.
Tell us about your Quintana Roo and how it performed in Kona.
After I raced Lake Placid, I had the opportunity to switch bikes to a Quintana Roo PRsix. I am 6’4” and not your typical cyclist body, but the team at QR was able to customize the PRsix for me to ride to my first ever sub 6 hour race (on the bike) albeit at Kona.
From the design, fitting aspect, to the race week tune up in Kona, my QR made me feel like I was a pro racing.
What’s next for you?
In 2020, I will be racing Puerto Rico,70.3, IM St. George and Tremblant 70.3. My dream would be to make it to a World Championships again next year!
Thanks, Greg! We wish you the best in all of your future races! Welcome to the QR family.
