With a doctorate degree in exercise science, Matt is one of the most technically savvy triathletes in multisport, serving as a key part of early prototype development and testing of both the V-PR and V-PRi superbikes. While he's used those bikes to post fastest bike splits in competition, its his run prowess that keeps the leader looking over his shoulder in every event he enters.
Matt holds the marthon record at Challenge Roth, a blistering 2:28:03, run in 2025.
Hanson is one of the most decorated triathletes in the sport, a multi-time IRONMAN North America National Champion with six IRONMAN victories, and another six IRONMAN 70.3 victories. It’s that palmares that has catapulted his triathlon coaching platform, Matt Hanson Racing to national acclaim.
What to Watch For in 2026
This guy defies the odds. While being called a "veteran" is a ding against some, not so for Hanson, who seems to age like fine wine, with the numbers and results backing it: he's getting faster with age.
To wit: he beat all the kids behind him to finish third in a closely-fought 2026 IRONMAN New Zealand in early March. Ticket to Kona? Punched.
With Kona banked, his goal is improve on his 10th-place result of two years ago. With that long-stride marathon that eats up competitors late in the race, we'd never bet against him; we've seen way too many younger pros survival mode as he soars by toward the podium.
