BENEFITS OF A TRIATHLON BIKE

If you’re interested in becoming a triathlete you need to seriously take into consideration the benefits of a triathlon bike. Pushing your body to its athletic zenith is a tradition that triathletes have challenged themselves to for years. Triathlon's are stand-out challenge's that require proper training and sharp focus. Triathlon's also require the proper bike to ride. From the geometry of the frame and its efficient aerodynamics, to the angles of the seat tube and aerodynamics, riding a triathlon bike will enhance your triathlon results.

SEAT POSITION

The benefits of the differences in a triathlon bike compared to a road bike are evident in a variety of ways. One main difference is simply the way the seat is positioned. On a triathlon bike, the seat tube is steeper than a road bike. The angle of the seat tube on a triathlon bike forces the hips to sit forward which gives the rider less tension on their quadriceps and hamstrings. Road bikes typically have around a 72 degree seat tube angle, where a triathlon bike will have an angle closer to 78+ degrees.

STORAGE FEATURES

A triathlon bike will feature more options for storage compartments and water bottle holders that are convenient for a triathlete to place tools, inner tubes, food, and fluid. A triathlete has a longer race than what typical road bikes are used for and needs to be prepared for an emergency tire puncture. Having thoughtful storage for the necessary items a triathlete needs gives triathlon bikes a sensible advantage.

AERODYNAMICS

Drafting is not legal in most triathlons so each triathlon bike is wind tunnel tested during product design phases to be sure it is extremely efficient and saves the rider as many watts as possible while they ride. The triathlon bike also features aero bars that place the rider in an extremely aerodynamic position that they can be comfortable in for many hours at a time. Deep carbon fiber wheels are also used to increase aerodynamics of the triathlon bike.

IN CLOSING

If you’re seriously preparing for a triathlon, riding a triathlon bike is key to be competitive in the race. The visual differences of a triathlon bike from a traditional road bike are more than frame deep. Those features will aid every triathlete to step up to the challenge of triathlon achievement.
