Since 1987, Quintana Roo has been a leader in triathlon technology. From wetsuits to bikes, QR has set the tone for what defines fast in multisport. We've continued our legacy of speed with the V-PR—a bike that’s faster than ever before, with weight savings that deliver a new level of performance and confident handling seldom seen in triathlon bikes.
Quintana Roo V-PR
For decades, QR has defined what’s possible in aerodynamics and practicality in triathlon bikes. From the world's first dedicated triathlon-specific bike in 1987 to the groundbreaking SHIFT+ design found on our PRseries triathlon bike range, QR has created the most technologically advanced bikes that push the envelope with multi-award-winning solutions for speed. It’s that never-ending search for perfection that has made QR the first—and last—name in cutting-edge tri bike design and performance.
But we never rest.
We applied everything we’ve learned and achieved, then sought places where we could improve. We wanted even better aerodynamic improvements. Less weight. Improved handling. Greater ease of use. And because these bikes are ridden by athletes in the heat of battle, a QR must always provide every advantage for multisport athletes as they prepare for the run. At its core, speed is simple. Engineering it into our bikes is our entire purpose.
So we started from scratch on our new creation. Technology, simplicity, purity, attainability, and lightness were the pillars of the concept. And of course, it had to be faster than ever before.
The result? The new V-PR.
The V-PR isn’t just another triathlon bike
Re-designed from the ground up, the V-PR is our most variable condition-favorable triathlon bike ever. A slimmer aero profile and shallower cross sections where warranted allow the V-PR to handle anything from Kona’s brutal Ho’o Mumuku crosswinds to block headwinds on your sprint course with even greater ease and confident control.
We pared down the aerodynamic cross-section of the V-PR fork and opted for a more traditional aero fork/steerer interface. A set of thin seatstays were vertically dropped and shouldered, reducing frontal surface area. Additionally, the profile of the downtube changes as it descends from headtube to bottom bracket, delivering an aero advantage as wind flow changes over the frame. Shapes have been altered throughout the V-PR, maintaining a boat tail trailing edge where appropriate for improved aerodynamics at a variety of yaw angle options, while maintaining—and in many instances, increasing—the speed, stability, and overall performance of the V-PR against our competitors.
The V-PR is slimmer too. We took a fast bike and scaled it down to racing weight. It employs a new light carbon fiber material—exclusive to the V-PR— for weight savings in addition to a new degree of targeted stiffness.
One of the cornerstones of our triathlon bike designs is our signature non-driveside aero chainstay: a large, triangulated surface area that helps turbulent air stay attached to the frame for cleaner airflow, lower drag, and more speed. We call it Leading Edge Absent. This is an area that experiences turbulence coming off the front wheel and from pedaling legs—a.k.a. “dirty air.” It’s a region of the bike where we can achieve massive aero gains—and we’ve chased them. The advantages become amplified on the V-PR with the new redesigned LEA.2 non-driveside chainstay, our second iteration of Leading Edge Absent technology.
While we maintain a stiff chainstay with plenty of wind-taming surface area in the new V-PR, we’ve moved much of the frame’s airflow-controlling surfaces up, adding more surface area at the downtube/seattube intersection, while removing a large section of the oversized chainstay’s lower section.
By doing this, we’ve increased our longest seamless surface area on the V-PR’s clean air non-driveside for maximum aero performance. Turbulent wind comes off the trailing edge of the front wheel and re-attaches to the V-PR frame low on the downtube. It then travels smoothly and uninterrupted above the bottom bracket and along the new LEA.2 chainstay. Paired with our redesigned driveside-offset SHIFT+ downtube, the new LEA.2 chainstay helps wind move with less resistance than ever over the frame.
Exclusive to Quintana Roo, Shift+ is an engineering design that helps minimize frontal area and wind resistance created by the drivetrain. By offsetting the downtube toward the drivetrain, airflow is diverted (or "shifted") toward the bike’s cleaner non-driveside for less air resistance and more speed.
We’ve taken the most turbulent air moving across the bike, tamed it so it attaches smoothly onto the frame, and vented it off cleanly. The bonus? We also shaved several grams of weight off the frame.
While we celebrate the performance gains the V-PR delivers, it’s the new ride characteristics that will be truly palpable. With less surface area and less weight, the V-PR becomes not just our lightest frame, it is far and away our most stable triathlon bike. You will climb better, navigate tight, technical turns with greater ease, and handle crosswinds with more confidence—all advantages that allow athletes to use less energy controlling their bike— leaving more energy for the athlete on the run.
On the V-PR, less is truly more. We’ve opted for a traditional steerer/headtube interface which saves precious grams, while also improving aero drag numbers at greater yaw angles—an instance when the added surface area can typically be problematic. The QR.SF fork’s elegant minimalism belies its responsive handling whether battling crosswinds or navigating tight roads, roundabouts, and corners.
V-PR development involved proving out CFD theory with hours of wind tunnel time testing our development prototypes, our athletes, and our chief competitors. We worked extensively with Pro Triathlete Matt Hanson at A2 Wind Tunnel in Mooresville, N.C.
In the interest of fair, accurate data, we normalized all adjustable elements, using uniform stack and reach measurements, standardized wheels, and standardized tire pressure and tires. In fact, we went to great lengths to give our competitors the benefit of the doubt. If a cable housing was too long, we shortened it, or tucked it out of the wind. We wanted to ensure that we were truly fast in a fair fight.
Regardless of yaw conditions, and especially at higher yaw angles, the V-PR was consistently faster when compared to our baseline competitor, the Cervelo P5. In the end, we found the V-PR was 12.7% more efficient on average than the P5 across a yaw sweep of -15 to 15 degrees at 24 mph air speed. We tested every permutation against our competitors, and in every instance the V-PR came out fastest.
Even compared to our own super-fast PRsix2 Disc, the V-PR yielded drag savings that make it 5.02% more efficient.
A central goal with the V-PR was to create a bike that raced fast, but delivered something unexpected, something never seen in tri bikes: the responsive handling and climbing performance of a premium road bike. We can confidently say the V-PR is the finest-handling, best-climbing bike in triathlon.
A bike that weighs less handles better through chicanes and around corners. It accelerates quicker, stops quicker, rolls over hills faster, climbs better, turns with greater precision, and is simply more responsive—like a good road bike. To deliver road bike-like handling, our engineering team tailored the frame, focusing on shape changes that reduce weight without sacrificing efficiency, and designed a light fork with a traditional aero fork/steerer interface that reduced excessive surface area.
As a result, the V-PR is the lightest full-function triathlon bike we’ve ever made at just 2,169 grams (includes frame, fork, seatpost, QBox and TT storage in 52cm). It’s a performance advance that is palpable the moment you begin to ride—and race—the V-PR. In a complete stock bike comparison with size-equivalent models (Cervelo 54cm = QR 52cm = Canyon/Scott medium), with all bikes featuring no accessories (hydration, storage or nutrition boxes), the V-PR is the lightest bike among industry leaders.
(All bikes in stock configuration with carbon race wheels)
Quintana Roo V-PR: 19.22 lbs
Cervelo P5: 19.44 lbs
Canyon Speedmax CFR Disc: 20.11 lbs

We’ve added one element to the V-PR that will make you (and your ears) happier: a threaded T47 bottom bracket system. In electing to use a threaded design, we are able to reduce the propensity for creaking that plagues many pressfit bottom bracket designs.
Standard course-available bottles? Between the aerobars integrated bottle? Behind the saddle? It’s all up to you. How you take on hydration in training and racing is a highly personal choice. The V-PR is designed to be faster with standard round bottles on board than without. With choice of the integrated Profile Design Aeria aero bottle (available on all V-PR models except size 48 & 50cm bikes) or Profile Design’s HSF/Aero HC 800+ extension-mounted between-the-arms bottle, the choice on how you stay fueled on course is up to you.
To stick to your fueling plan, having your training and race day nutrition front and center is key. We re-designed our tried-and-true aero top tube nutrition box. It uses a rigid rubber design with a simple zipper closure, which cleans with ease after the race. Our nutrition box is capable of holding several gels, a gel flask, or bars.
Tools or fuel: the V-PR has a place for everything, and everything is in its place—out of the wind. The QBox has been the standard by which all other storage boxes are measured. The fully removable QBox has been re-designed for a more compact presentation while still keeping plenty of space for a tube, CO2 cartridges, tire levers, a multitool, and a patch kit, all while helping the bike be aerodynamically faster. You can easily affix your rear light or radar via built-in slots for rubber band attachments.
With a firm frame and secure lid attachment, the QBox receives significant structural support from the upper seat stays. This means it all stays solidly in place—invisible to the wind, but ready for use when you need it.
The V-PR is available with two cockpit options, which each present their own advantages. Whether you want the fastest, lightest system available today, or you prefer a wide range of aerobar adjustability, we have the cockpit that will deliver a tailored V-PR ride experience.
Vision’s Pro Cockpit is the most aero aerobar option. In its own testing, Vision found the Pro extensions to be eight percent faster than their standard extensions, resulting in a 9.4-second savings over 40 kilometers. The Vision Pro extensions attach to a reversible Vision Pro full-carbon basebar (which gives athletes +/- 25mm of basebar rise/fall) with an integrated full-carbon arm cup/extension that fills all aerodynamic voids along the length of the forearm. Available in three fixed carbon fiber lengths, the Pro is ideal for the athlete who’s ready for a light, fast, and aggressive setup.
With the same reversible Vision carbon basebar and clean stem integration, the TFA includes a pad and extension combination with Vision’s widest fit variance, with armrest stack range from 70 to 145mm, in 5mm increments, pad fore/aft from -9 to -99mm, width ranging from 210 to 360mm, and cup rotation from 0 to 13 degrees. Easily find a powerful, comfortable, and aero fit with the Vision TFA cockpit.
